Fuel Migration: What you need know

Fuel Migration: What’s Changing?
The Fuel Migration is one of the most significant updates in Illuvium, streamlining the fuel system and improving resource management for all players.
Key Changes
All existing Fuel types (Crypton, Hyperion, and Solon) are consolidated into a single "Fuel." outside of Illuvium Zero
The DAO will sell Fuel at a fixed price of 0.01$, eliminating price fluctuations and simplifying onboarding for new players.
Fuel Revenue Distribution for landholders will be distributed based on the proportion of fuel burned within Illuvium Zero.
These changes will make fuel usage more predictable, prevent economic exploits, and ensure fair distribution for landholders.
How Fuel Burn Cycles Work for Landholder Revenue Distribution
With the Fuel Migration now in effect, landholders will receive their 5% revenue share based on the amount of Fuel they burn during each cycle, relative to all other landholders. This approach ensures that the allocated revenue is distributed fairly, reflecting real gameplay activity and contribution.
Fuel Migration
Previously, Crypton, Solon, and Hyperion were separate fuels used across Illuvium Zero, Overworld, and Arena. These are now being merged into one unified Fuel outside of Illuvium Zero to create a more straightforward in-game currency.
The DAO will sell Fuel at a fixed price of 0.01$, removing price volatility and making it easier for players to plan their in-game spending.
How does it work?
The migration takes place automatically in the background — you won’t need to do anything.
Here’s what actually happens:
All Illuvium:Zero Fuel balances have been adjusted to a maximum of 1,000 units for each of the three Fuel types.
Any excess Fuel is automatically transferred to your Passport account
Your Fuel Balances in your Passport account are converted into Unified Fuel at a fixed ratio of 89:1.
This means for every 89 units of old fuel, you’ll receive 1 Unified Fuel.
You won’t see this process occur, but once you load back in, your wallet will reflect the new fuel balance.
Example 1 - Simple Migration
User A Old Passport Fuel Balance:
Illuvium Zero Balance: 0 Crypton, 0 Solon, 0 Hyperion
Passport Balance: 1000 Crypton, 1000 Solon, 1000 Hyperion
User A New Fuel Balance
Moving Excess Fuel out of Illuvium Zero => 0 Crypton, 0 Solon, 0 Hyperion
Adding up all 3 Fuel => 1000 Crypton + 1000 Solon + 1000 Hyperion = 3000
Converting Passport Balance to the new Fuel => 3000 / 89 = 33.71
Rounding up => 34 Fuel
Example 2 - Migration with Illuvium Zero Balance
User B Old Fuel Balance:
Illuvium Zero Balance: 2000 Crypton, 1000 Solon, 500 Hyperion
Passport Balance: 1000 Crypton, 1000 Solon, 1000 Hyperion
User B New Fuel Balance
Moving Excess Fuel out of Illuvium Zero => 1000 Crypton, 0 Solon, 0 Hyperion
Adding up all 3 Fuel => 2000 Crypton + 1000 Solon + 1000 Hyperion = 4000
Converting Passport Balance to the new Fuel => 4000 / 89 = 44.94
Rounding up => 45 Fuel
Why the 89:1 conversion factor?
This conversion rate was calculated based on the latest average Fuel pricing and to ensure the future stability of the economy and simplify onboarding while maintaining the same purchasing power players had before migration — just with a single, unified currency instead of three fluctuating ones.
Bonus Cosmetic Reward
Wallets that hold at least 1,000 Unified Fuel after migration will receive a special cosmetic reward as a thank-you for being part of the transition.
Fuel Refunds
The original fuel system did not include a pricing floor, which allowed some players to accumulate Fuel at unsustainably low prices. To address this, IIP-74 introduced a refund option (Fuel Refund Proposal (IIP-74): ). If you purchased Fuel at below 25% of the maximum rail price (i.e., less than 0.00000065 ETH) and are not satisfied with your updated Fuel balance, you may be eligible for a refund.
Eligibility Criteria:
Purchased Fuel below 0.00000065 ETH
Fuel has not been spent
Refund request is made within 30 days of the Fuel Migration
Refund will be issued to the original purchasing wallet
How to Request a Refund?: Contact our support team and provide the following information:
Your Illuvium Username
Your Passport Wallet Address
To ensure smooth processing, we will only accept one refund request per person, and all eligible Fuel will be refunded in full. Partial refunds will not be processed. A blog explaining the refund process will be released in 24-48 hours.
Illuvium: Zero - Understanding Fuel Burn Cycles
A cycle is a fixed time period—initially set to one week—during which the system tracks the amount of Fuel burned by each landholder's.
At the end of each cycle, the total Fuel burned across all land plots is calculated. This total determines each landholder’s share of the 5% of all Fuel sales.
Cycle Details Coming Soon
Example: How Your Fuel Burn Affects Your Earnings
Let’s say there are 1,000 total landholders, and during a single cycle:
Total Fuel burned across all land plots = 100,000 Fuel
Landholder A burns = 1,500 Fuel
Landholder B burns = 500 Fuel
How the 5% Revenue Share Works:
If the total revenue from Fuel sales that cycle is 1,000 ETH, then 5% of that is 50 ETH set aside for landholders.
Landholder A burned 1.5% (1,500/100,000) of all Fuel → They receive 0.75 ETH from the pool.
Landholder B burned 0.5% (500/100,000) of all Fuel → They receive 0.25 ETH from the pool.
Key Takeaways:
Your Fuel Burn % relative to all landholders determines your ETH payout.
Your ETH is distributed automatically at the end of each cycle.
FAQ:
Where is my Fuel?
Your fuel has been converted into the new unified Fuel type. If you previously had Crypton, Hyperion, or Solon, their purchasing power has been retained and converted into the new Fuel system.
Why can’t I send Fuel to my Passport account?
Sending fuel from your plots to yourself had to be removed. Instead, landholders will receive ETH based on fuel burned in Zero, with soon the ability to claim that share as Fuel directly, replacing the old functionality.
How will landholders get 5% of the Revenue Distribution?
Landholders will receive ETH distributions proportional to the fuel they burn during each distribution period.
How does the new Fuel price work?
Fuel now has a fixed price set at 0.01$ by the DAO, ensuring consistent costs across all Illuvium games.
What happens to my previous fuel orders?
Any outstanding fuel orders in the Fuel Exchange have been cancelled and credited back to the Illuvium Zero plots.
