By: Caveman, Garf, Paz, Ricky, Fight4ETH
Newsletter Overview
September marked the start of a new epoch with fresh faces joining both the Illuvium Community Council (ICC) and the Illuvium Main Council (IMC). This month, the councils have been hard at work addressing key topics such as leaderboard rewards, tournament structure, and governance improvements. With the launch of new features on the horizon and exciting developments in the Illuvium ecosystem, this epoch is set to bring significant changes and enhancements to the community. Here’s a recap of the key discussions and decisions made in September
Illuvium Main Council Review
Members: Kieran, Scoriox, Scrubadubdad, Jaganite, Animositas,
Throughout September, the IMC focused on several important topics, including adjustments to the airdrop structure and the elimination of bots. The council discussed the second fuel crate airdrop, fuel price stabilization, and possible updates to leaderboards and tournaments. Additionally, they explored the Esports committee proposal and improvements to player engagement through leaderboards and new game modes in Illuvium Beyond and Overworld. The IMC also emphasized the need for optimized gameplay to make the game more accessible and highlighted the upcoming development of features such as Megacities and blueprints for Illuvium Zero.
Illuvium Community Council Review
Members: Caveman, Garf, Paz, Rickytan, Fight4ETH
The ICC concentrated on enhancing communication within the DAO and improving governance processes. Key topics included the structure of the Season 3 airdrop, updates to the leaderboard reward distribution, and tournament organization to boost community engagement. The council also planned a Town Hall to increase transparency and ensure player feedback is incorporated into the governance discussions. They highlighted the need to continue refining the proposal process, addressing community concerns, and balancing competitive play with fairness
Voted Proposals Recap
[PASSED] GCCP-1 Esports Committee
The GCCP-1 proposal has successfully introduced an Esports Committee to the Illuvium ecosystem. This committee, consisting of five industry experts, will provide guidance on all aspects of Illuvium's competitive scene. Nominated by ILV token holders and appointed by the IMC, these experts will offer advice to ensure that decisions surrounding esports are carefully considered and aligned with the project’s long-term goals. Members will have a strong background in esports and a vested interest in Illuvium's success. They will work closely with the IMC and the Team while being required to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to maintain confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the information they may handle.
Esports is a significant pillar of the Illuvium ecosystem, from large-scale multimillion-dollar tournaments to the highly anticipated Tier 5 Stadium plots. The addition of the Esports Committee fills an important gap in expertise within the IMC. This move strengthens Illuvium’s focus on building a robust competitive scene, providing expert insights at no cost to the DAO, as the committee will operate voluntarily. This proposal has received strong community support and marks an important step towards ensuring that Illuvium’s competitive landscape thrives long-term.
[PASSED] GFP-2 Enable Beyond Disk Fragments in Overworld
The GFP-2 proposal introduces Beyond D1sk fragments as collectible items within the Overworld (OW). Players will now be able to gather these fragments during paid OW runs and combine them to forge Standard or Mega D1sks, adding a new layer of interoperability between Beyond and OW. The number of fragments required to forge a D1sk and their drop rates will be carefully balanced to maintain the economy’s integrity. Fragments will be found in caches scattered throughout OW regions, with different stages of caches providing varying amounts of fragments. This new mechanic encourages players to engage more deeply with the OW while promoting Beyond organically through gameplay.
NOTE: As a reminder GFP represents an idea to enhance the game. The specifics will be determined by labs and the new feature may not be exactly as written by the sponsor.
[REVISIONS NEEDED] IIP-66 Remove the Bonus Fuel System
The IIP-66 proposal advocates for the removal of the bonus fuel system currently in place in Illuvium’s fuel exchange. This change seeks to eliminate market confusion caused by the bonus fuel mechanism, which has led to volatility and inefficiencies in fuel pricing. The proposal suggests introducing an order book system to replace the bonus system, allowing players to place limit and market orders for fuel and providing better transparency and market stability. The order book would include features such as bid and ask orders, minimum fuel orders, and an improved user interface that displays price history and recent trades.
While the proposal was generally well-received, community members suggested several revisions before implementation. Many agreed that the bonus fuel system is confusing and should be removed, but there were concerns about adding unnecessary complexity to the fuel exchange by introducing a full order book system. Some community members felt that while an order book could improve market transparency, it might overwhelm non-crypto-native players. It was suggested to simplify the proposal, focusing on the removal of the bonus fuel system while leaving the implementation of more complex trading features at Labs’ discretion. Additionally, community members recommended offering both a "Lite Mode" for newcomers and a "Pro Mode" for seasoned players to balance user experience.
[DECLINED] IIP-67 Ensuring Fair Leaderboard Rewards for Illuvium Beyond
IIP-67 aimed to distribute paused leaderboard rewards to previous top-ranking players before the launch of wave three. The proposal outlined several steps, including activating the secondary wallet feature, allowing previous leaderboard holders to sleeve their Illuvitars, taking a snapshot before wave three commenced, and paying out missed rewards. These measures were designed to ensure that those who had already ranked highly would not have to compete with new investors entering the ecosystem with the start of wave three. The proposal intended to compensate these players for the delayed rewards, ensuring fairness as the game continues to evolve.
However, the proposal was ultimately declined due to concerns about the sustainability and fairness of the rewards distribution system. Some council members expressed the belief that rewards were not owed, as the leaderboard rewards were paused, not promised indefinitely. Others argued that any adjustment of rewards should be done with a long-term, sustainable structure in place, as outlined in IIP-46. Additionally, it was noted that participants had already received free rewards during the pause, and introducing further adjustments without a product being delivered did not align with the DAO's value generation goals. The decision reflected a need for clearer communication around reward pauses and a focus on establishing a robust system for future waves.
Major Governance Discussions
Several key topics are currently being debated within the Illuvium community:
Burn Mechanics and Stat Re-Rolling: The introduction of burn mechanics, often tied to stat re-rolling systems, has sparked intense discussions. Some players see it as a valuable feature to manage supply and enhance gameplay, while others are concerned about the potential impact on NFT values and game balance.
Autobattler in the Overworld: The community is divided on whether the autobattler should remain in the Overworld. Supporters believe it adds depth to gameplay, while opponents argue it detracts from the exploration experience. The decision remains a hot topic as players voice their preferences.
Leaderboard Structure for Season 3: As Season 3 approaches, the structure of leaderboard rewards is being refined. The councils are focused on ensuring that rewards are fair, engaging, and foster healthy competition, especially with the addition of new gameplay elements and tournaments.
Leviathan Balancing: Ensuring balanced gameplay in the Leviathan arena remains a priority. Players have voiced concerns over certain mechanics that may give some an unfair advantage, and discussions are ongoing about how best to balance competition in this high-stakes mode.
Airdrop Season 3: The structure and rewards for Airdrop Season 3 are being carefully evaluated to ensure they align with player expectations and the growth of the Illuvium ecosystem. Discussions revolve around how to make the airdrop both rewarding and sustainable for the DAO.

Master Thread Discussion
From time to time, when important discussions arise that lead to multiple solutions or proposals, we aim to create a master thread to consolidate all ideas into one centralized location. This helps foster focused discussions and allows the community to express their preferences on the most desired path forward. These master threads will typically be initiated by ICC members, and you can find a few examples below:
